Shots to the double glock

I try to learn something new every day and if I haven't done so by the end of the day, I either look for something new online or call my mom.. she always has an odd facts to share... call me crazy, I just like doing that. So anyway, today's lesson was unexpected but I am thankful for it. My husband was the teacher.

In the last few months, as some of you may know, my hubby has taken on a new gun hobby. He recently has purchased one and I have done my best to be the supportive wife and encourage him to get better. Deep down though, I have been afraid. Im thinking it all started about 20 years ago, when I was a youngster watching an HBO documentary about a little kid that blew his friends brains out while showing off his dads gun... that has always stuck with me and when my husband first convinced me to go to the gun range I was more than afraid.

Being the surface roughneck that I am, I didn't tell him about my fear and I shot that Glock like my name was Cleo and I was finna set it off in that mutha.. Then I went home and cried like a baby..

The second and third times I went I became more and more comfortable with the gun and I was feeling better about the whole situation.. Until he bought one.

Now my husband is the most responsible guy I know. He pays attention
to all detail and is extra cautious, especially with our children, but that fucking HBO documentary I saw in elementary school kept popping in my head and I realized that having a gun around me 24/7 was nothing like using it in the safe bullet-proof glassed and child-free confines of the range. My hubby took all the safety precautions, got the bullets that don't go thru walls, got his cpl, took classes to learn how to use it, and most importantly, dropped big loot for a safe...but still, I was nervous.. Well today, he got a sitter for our boys, took me to dinner and we talked guns.. he said he recognized my fear and asked me why I was afraid. We talked and talked and talked.. He took me back to the range, had an instructor there to show me exactly how the gun works, we took it apart, I loaded and unloaded the clip several times until I felt comfortable. He had the owner of the range talk to me about gun safety in the home and how we can keep my babies safe...

I cant even begin to say how much this meant to me, that this man recognized my fear and did so much to make me feel safe and understand and face my fear. Now I still have a few butterflies in my tummy when I see the heater in my house, but I really feel as though my hub has it all under control and I am no longer afraid...

He taught me an important lesson in patience and paying attention to what your loved one is not saying as it is often just as important as what they are saying...I am so thankful for him. Now, time for bed...

Like you I have a really bad gun memory...someone was actually shot right in front of me, so guns REALLY scare me too. I luv that your husband listened to what you DIDN'T say...and how he went above and beyond to make sure you were comfortable and so well informed. THAT IS LOVE...the REAL thing.

Great post.

That is a good husband there, girl. I'm fearful of those things myself. I'm quite happy and handy with a good ol' trusty Louisville Slugger but everyone keeps suggesting a gun. *sigh* I just can't bring myself to do it. Especially with a little one in the house.

@Jazz.. My fear only stems from a TV program, I couldnt imagine actually bearing witness to such violence. Thank you for sharing that!
@Mo,I am sure you can understand when I say that before I had children I was fearless. I would do try anything, take very dangerous risks and the only person I had to worry about hurting was me. Once my kids born, I began living for them and I am much more cautious! Gotta be!! Girl, keep your slugger and if you decide to get a gun make sure you learn how to use it and get a safe!
@O,shooting in the range really is fun.. I enjoy it, its just the gun in the home that has my nerves out of control!! If you ever want to go, let me know! You can roll with us!

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE SUPPORT!!
